Cyberjaya, the smart city hub of Malaysia ’s Multimedia Supper Corridor (MSC), is for the masses, said its landowner, Cyberview Sdn Bhd.

“It’s not exclusive,” said Cyberview managing director Redza Rafiq. “We need to change the view that Cyberjaya is only for foreign investor.”

He said Cyberview had been asked to take on a bigger role to provide enterprise building and soft community centric infrastructure, among others.

“We are trying to make it a community-centric township in tandem with the Prime Minister’s call.”

He said Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi wanted information and communications technology for the people.

“We’re going to make it happen,” he said. “Malaysians need to know that Cyberjaya is not dead. It offers a thriving community and we have a lot of plans for it.”

He said Cyberjaya helped to spur the economy and created jobs with involvement from multinational and local firms such as DHL, NTT and Shell that have offices in Cyberjaya. The latest includes HSBC, which is going to employ about 3, 000 workers.

Redza said Dell was also coming in with its temporary office ready for occupation by October while waiting for its main building to be completed in the third quarter of 2007.

He said the city offered two unique features, “We have a dedicated transport service that runs 24 hours, seven days a week. It’s tailored to the shifts of the companies, which bear 30 per cent of the costs while the employees pay 30 per cent and Cyberjaya the remaining 40 per cent.”

The second feature is the city-wide emergency response plan mapped out by Cyberview and its shareholders with corporations based in Cyberjaya.

Redza said they are planning to install CCTVs in high traffic volume areas.

“It’s going to be collaboration with multinationals and local companies. We will call local SMEs to bid for the contract by the year’s end.”

He said Cyberjayans are also poised to enjoy free parking. “That’s my plan, We hope to see that soon.”

Another jewel in Cyberjaya’s crown , he said, is the newly-completed sprawling lakeside community clubhouse with a futsal centre, driving range and fishing facilities on top of swimming pools, badminton hall, and squash, tennis and basketball courts.
